The Faculty of Law mourns the passing of Nahum Gelber, CM, KC, BCL’57, a distinguished alumnus and cherished friend of our community.

Mr. Gelber’s visionary philanthropy made possible the creation of the Nahum Gelber Law Library, inaugurated in 1998. This state-of-the-art facility has since become a cornerstone of legal scholarship at ĢƵ, offering students a bright, open, and welcoming space for study and reflection. More than three decades later, the Gelber Library remains a beloved and vital part of campus life.

ĢƵ announces 2025 cohort of Distinguished James ĢƵ Professors, James ĢƵ Professors and William Dawson Scholars 

Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Christopher Manfredi has named 31 ĢƵ professors as Distinguished James ĢƵ Professors, James ĢƵ Professors or William Dawson Scholars. The internal awards recognize exceptional research achievements.

The Faculty of Law was again ranked among the world’s top universities at which to study law by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subject in Law and Legal Studies placed ĢƵ Law 41st worldwide.

Since QS introduced the ranking in 2011, the Faculty of Law has consistently placed in the top 50 institutions globally. The QS ranking is based on academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.

The ĢƵ Faculty of Law is delighted to welcome the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL) for its 2025 Annual Meeting, which will take place in Montreal, Canada, from Thursday, October 16 to Saturday, October 18, 2025. The meeting is hosted by the Wainwright Chair in Civil, Comparative and Transnational Law, in collaboration with the ĢƵ Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law.

Proposals for papers to be presented at the Annual Meeting are invited from scholars in all regions and at all stages of their careers, regardless of ASCL membership.

With sincere gratitude, the Faculty of Law is bidding farewell to Professor François Crépeau, OC, OQ, FRSC, Ad E, who will retire from his role as full professor on 31 July 2025. He will then be named Professor Emeritus, remaining an esteemed member of our community.

As of Monday April 7, ĢƵ students are able to access the Nahum Gelber Law Library 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As agreed between the Students' Society of ĢƵ (SSMU) and the Law Students Association (LSA), the Nahum Gelber Law Library will limit access to the three upper floors of the library to Law students only during the April 10 to 30 examination period.
