Danforth Center on Religion and Politics\, Wa shington University in St. Louis\n\nThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-d ay Saints began its missionary activity in the Philippines in the 1890s\, just as Utah began its concerted assimilation into American Society. Today \, fully two-thirds of Church members in Asia are in the Philippines. In a n important sense\, the LDS Church and the Philippines became “Americanize d” together.
