In Case You Missed It: 2025 High Value Healthcare Symposium Recap

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, we hosted our annual Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Department of Medicine High Value Healthcare Symposium, bringing together members of the research and medical community for a day of insightful presentations, dynamic discussions, and trainee-led innovation. This year’s event saw strong engagement with 60 attendees joining us in person at the RI-MUHC and an additional 50 participants connecting virtually.

We were honored to welcome two distinguished keynote speakers. Dr. Nazia Sharfuddin, based in Toronto, delivered the in-person keynote address and was recognized as this year’s Dauphinee Award Winner for her exceptional work in combining medical education and quality improvement to advance health system capacity with a special focus on the QuEST Program. Joining us virtually from Toronto, Dr. Nick Daneman delivered a compelling keynote presentation, providing valuable perspectives on current research in Antibiotic Treatment.

A highlight of the day was the Abstract Slam Competition, where our talented trainees presented rapid-fire summaries of their research projects. Congratulations to Dr. Brianna Ghali, who was named this year’s Abstract Slam winner for her work on Fidelity of Implementation of new Maternal Early Warning Signs protocol at a tertiary care center.

In addition to the competition, attendees had the opportunity to engage with poster board presentations from trainees, showcasing a wide range of innovative and impactful quality improvement initiatives.

A heartfelt thank you to Alexandra Hauck for the time and effort she dedicated to organizing the event and to the Quality Improvement Committee members: Dr. Emily McDonald, Dr. Samuel Mamane, Dr. Maral Koolian, Dr. Arielle Mendel and Dr. Saman Ahmad.

We also extend our sincere thanks to all attendees (both in person and online) for supporting this event and celebrating the work of our trainees and distinguished speakers. Your participation made the symposium a success, and we look forward to welcoming you again next year!
