In recognition of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, the School of Population and Global Health invites students, faculty, and staff to a day of reflection, learning, and cultural connection. This event aims to bring forward the importance of honouring the land and the Indigenous communities across Canada who have cared for them.

Date: Tuesday, September 30, 2025

Time: 6-7:30pm

Location: Room 1140 of 2001 Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ College

This event will feature two key activities:

  • Land acknowledgment and reflection workshop: This interactive workshop invites participants to explore the history and significance of land acknowledgements. Through guided discussion and reflection, attendees will learn how to craft personal, meaningful statements that recognize the traditional territories they live, work, and gather on, fostering deeper understanding and respect for Indigenous Peoples and their ongoing relationships to the land.
  • Short film and show screening: The first screening will feature the short film Bimibatoo-win: Where I Ran, which chronicles Charlie Bittern, a residential school Survivor, as he recalls the harrowing 80-kilometre run he was forced to complete during a severe Manitoba blizzard in 1967. The second screening will present an episode of the new North of North series on CBC Gem. This light-hearted narrative explores Indigenous themes through the story of Siaja, a young Inuk mother determined to reinvent herself within her close-knit Arctic community of Ice Cove.

A light meal will be provided during the event.

Join us as we come together to commemorate this day, deepen our understanding of Indigenous histories, and reflect on the path toward reconciliation.
