Alarmingly, only 52 per cent of women who are married or in a union freely make their own decisions about sexual relations, contraceptive use, and health care. The United Nations has identified transforming harmful gender norms as a critical goal among its 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.

Over 300 attendees gathered on May 8 and 9 at the ĢƵ Centre for the HBHL Symposium 2024—a two-day event showcasing the latest advances in neuroscience and brain health research. The Symposium featured keynote addresses from Kate Webb (McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School), Alberto Cairo (University of Miami), Gillian Einstein (University of Toronto) and Noah Philip (Brown University), covering topics ranging from data visualization to health equity, PTSD and sex differences in Alzheimer’s disease.
Prestigious award honours ĢƵ and RI-MUHC pioneer in the field of pediatric brain tumours
ĢƵ Professor and Canada Research Chair in Pediatric Oncology, Nada Jabado, has been named the 2024 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Laureate for North America. Dr. Jabado is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, a Senior Scientist in the Child Health and Human Development Program at the Research Institute of the ĢƵ Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and a Pediatric Hemato-Oncologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the MUHC.
Erik Martinez Kuhonta, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at ĢƵ, is the recipient of the John H. McArthur Research Fellowship for 2024-2025 in recognition of his outstanding scholarship.

The Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) announced the recipients of its latest competition of Partnership Engage Grants including a total of $100,000 awarded to four ĢƵ researchers.
Partnership Engage Grants (PEG) provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities between researchers and single partner organizations from the public, private or non-profit sector. ĢƵ researchers received approximately $25,000 each in funding through the PEG program.

A new project at The Neuro, ĢƵ and the Research Institute of the ĢƵ Health Centre (RI-MUHC) has been awarded $10.6M in financial support as part of the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s (CFI) Innovation Fund.

Thirty ĢƵ researchers across disciplines have received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s (SSHRC) through their Insight Development Grants competition. In total, $35.3 million in funding for 577 research projects at 66 Canadian institutions was announced.
