Chama Laassassy, M.A., Second Language Education, DISE, has been recognized for her leadership potential, strong ties with community, and innovative approaches to creating change, earning a Pathy Foundation Fellowship for 2024-2025.


Working Nation, a US-based organization working to highlight career/technical education and vocational training across the country asked Dr. Michael Lipset (DISE) to appear on their video-based YouTube series highlighting workforce efforts in education.
Filmed at SXSW EDU 2024, the video was one of a series of guest spots they filmed throughout the week and covers 4 Learning’s approach to school change, which includes vocational training in the recording arts, business of music and media, and other creative endeavors.

ĢƵ News recently published an article featuring Faculty of Education Alumni, Melissa Holland, BEd’98, the co-founder and co-artistic director of the Dr. Clown Foundation.
Her troupe of trained therapeutic clowns bring comfort, compassion, and plenty of laughs to hospitalized children and seniors in care facilities.

On May 15, 2024, Thomson House Ballroom hosted the annual Equity and Community Building Awards Ceremony. The awards highlight the work of students, faculty, and staff committed to advancing equity, diversity and community building at ĢƵ.

Two members of the Fall 2024 cohort of will begin their funded Master’s studies at ĢƵ’s Faculty of Education. Designed to encourage purposeful leadership, the scholarships enable students to pursue a funded degree while participating in mentorship, coaching, and a leadership development program.
Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Researchers at ĢƵ found student-led initiatives can transform students’ mindsets and develop their skills and confidence as agents of larger-scale change.

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, at "A Taste of Tea", Playmas Montreal Cultural Association recognized Sabi Kamilah Hinkson “as a woman of merit” and awarded her a certificate “to honour her excelling contribution in the field of education and her role as a Black Woman of Excellence contributing to the advancement of Montreal’s Caribbean and wider communities.”
Sabi is a PhD student in DISE.

How ĢƵ’s Leaders #InspireInclusion
Friday, March 8 is International Women’s Day, marking the achievements of women and serving as a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
This year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion – a message exemplified by ĢƵ’s female leaders. At the moment, 10 of ĢƵ’s 14 deans are women; three are the first to ever to lead their Faculty.
Their thoughts on the women who inspire them, the progress that’s been made, and the barriers that have yet to be broken.

With the impacts of climate change only projected to grow in the years to come, educational institutions urgently need to step up to the scale and scope of the challenge.

The Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) atĢƵreceives investment fromas part of a $13.2M investment in seven Indigenous-led and teacher education programs.

Margaret Mackenzie and Samantha Nepton, both 2023 graduates of the Bachelor of Education program, are finalists for the McCall MacBain Scholarships, Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies.
Each finalist was chosen based on their character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Members of ĢƵ's leadership including the Faculty of Education’s Associate Dean of Academics, Dr. Sheryl Smith-Gilman, were hosted by the Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke on November 22, 2023 for a day of learning and collaboration.
“What a fantastic experience it was to be part of the day of learning at the longhouse,” Dr. Smith-Gilman reported. Apart from her role as Associate Dean, Dr. Smith-Gilman’s academic career has largely involved Early Childhood Education and Indigenous Education.
