University of Manitoba Bachelor of Arts in Psychology graduate Rachel Cluett (BA’24) is one of 20 Canadians selected to join the fifth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at ĢƵ. Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Rachel will pursue a Master of Arts in School/Applied Child Psychology at ĢƵ.

Daniel Fortin-Guichard, Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, was invited to the Temps d'Arrêt podcast hosted by (François Rodrigue), an Assistant Professor at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, discussing cognitive biases that selectors may have when identifying and selecting athletes (e.g., at the NHL draft).

Dr. Tina Montreuil, a researcher at the Educational and Counselling Psychology Department (Associate Member of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences), has been awarded the prestigious FRQS Chercheur Boursier Junior 2 award this past April 2025.

Canada in general, and Montreal specifically, have been facing a drug toxicity and fatal overdose crisis for nearly a decade. While integrated systems of interventions are necessary to address drug-related harms, the use of naloxone has been a key strategy to reduce the acute effect of opioid-involved deaths. Currently, ĢƵ does not offer naloxone trainings to the campus community, limiting students’ ability to assist in the event of an overdose.

The Kaushalam program, a collaborative initiative between the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Uttarakhand and the Udyam Learning Foundation, aims to cultivate 21st-century life skills and an entrepreneurial mindset among students in Uttarakhand. A comprehensive study conducted during the 2024–25 academic year assessed the program's impact on Grade 9 students across seven districts.

UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development in India (MGIEP) recently hosted Faculty of Education Dean, Vivek Venkatesh, and Professor Joseph Levitan, DISE, for a dialogue on community based participatory action research, and pluralism and polarization.

Their visit was part of a research tour including a dialogue on these topics to foster collaboration and to exchange ideas on education and societal challenges.

Adam Dubé, PhD, ECP Associate Professor of Learning Sciences at ĢƵ, participated as a panelist in the "New School? Promises and Risks of AI in the Classroom" webinar hosted by Children and Screens.

The event focused on how children process information from AI-driven tools, the potential of AI to support cognitive development, and the ethical integration of AI into educational systems.

Howard Riggs was a dedicated, hard-working professor of math education. His work ethic was a product of his Prairie upbringing and his deep commitment to his students. He was hired by ĢƵ to teach social studies, but was pressed into service as a math educator in the Department of Elementary Education, one of the units that eventually morphed into DISE.
